Who sponsors the Barn?
The Barn is the family/youth activity venue for Troy Holiness Church. It's used for a variety of events through the week, but on Thursdays we open it up for whoever wants to come hang out.
Do we need to be there the whole time?
Not at all. There are no scheduled activities, so you are welcome to stop in for as short or long a time as you'd like.
How many staff are on site?
Usually between 2-4. It's not really a "staffed" event, which is why we ask that parents stay with kids younger than 14.
Is it really free?
Yes, there is no charge. At all. Not for entry, or for activities, or for drinks & snacks. (Which, to be fair, aren't always available. But when they are, they're free!)
What's the catch?
Would you believe me if I said there wasn't one? OK, probably not. So here's the deal. It's sort of like the reason People's Bank hands out hundreds of burgers, hot dogs and pretty nice gifts on Customer Appreciation Day. They'll gladly give them to customers and non-customers alike, because they are building goodwill: they know that when you are looking for a bank, you'll remember them. It's the same for the Barn: we know that many of the people who come hang out at the Barn may not be interested in God or church. And that's OK, because there will be some who are, or who eventually will have questions about God, or will start looking for a church later. If that time comes for you, then we'd love for you to come talk to us. If it doesn't, that's fine too. Getting to know our neighbors is good thing in itself!
What about COVID precautions?
Hand sanitizer is available, and though masks are not required, they are available as well. Many activities are outdoors, which minimizes the risk of transmission. The Barn itself is a large, open room with plenty of airflow, which again minimizes the risk. And obviously, if you have COVID symptoms or have been recently exposed, we ask that you not attend until the recommended quarantine time has passed.
